When was the last time you danced? today!

How long have you been bellydancing?  I think I first bellydanced in 2006

What inspired you to start?  Years ago, a family member was learning "Middle Eastern folkdance" as she told her hubbie before he found out it was Bellydance.  Haha!  I always thought she was beautiful.  Every time I've been to a Morrocan restaurant (like Cassablanca) and watched the joyful and mysterious dancers such as Almaaza and Maya, I've felt inspired to learn.  I finally got up my nerve 3 years ago.  I just finished my T'ai Chi class when I saw these lovely ladies with jingly hip scarves come walking in!!  (I was actually having physical therapy at the time for my hips.  I have found that Bellydance has helped tremendously and is wonderful exercise for a woman's body.)  Ilianna was teaching the class and she's so much fun and her beauty just shines!

Do you have any other dance or music training?  My other dance background consists of a little ballet and tap, a little latin and ballroom, a very little blues and swing.  I love world dances and hope someday to learn:  Bollywood, Irish, and others.  I have had some music training in piano, guitar, zills, and am excited to learn more drumming.

What do you like best about bellydancing?  I like the way bellydancing celebrates femininity and is so expressive of the music.  I love the many different styles of bellydance and how they allow us to celebrate our uniqueness through music, movement, and costuming - Oh the fantastic costume possibilities!  And I just love all the really wonderful "sisters" I've met in this awesome community of such talented, creative, and unique artists; every one a gem that sparkles from within!
